Renewable energy around Babenhausen: Windmills

Renewable energy around Babenhausen

Windmills

General:

·         Windmills are devices for using wind energy to generate electrical energy.

·         The rotation of the rotor blades activates a generator that produces electricity.

·         A typical windmill consists of rotor blades, a hub, a gearbox, a generator and a tower. The rotor blades are usually made of lightweight and durable material such as fiberglass or carbon fiber composites. The tower serves to take the windmill to greater heights to access stronger winds.

·         Windmills are located in windy areas such as coastal regions, hills or open plains. Sites are carefully chosen to ensure the best possible access to strong and steady winds.

Schaafheim/Neighbourhood:

·         At the end of the year 2021 there were 1160 Windmills. There is also a windpark in Schaafheim (Groß-Umstadt) which is near Babenhausen. The wind park is called wind park Binsleberg

Pro and Cons:

·         Windmills are considered an environmentally friendly source of energy compared to fossil fuels as they do not produce greenhouse gases or air pollution. However, there may be environmental impacts such as noise pollution for local residents, impact on bird and bat populations, and visual impacts on landscapes.

·         Some inhabitants of Schaafheim think that it is fine to have windmills in their area but there are also some complaints about windmills. These are that they very Noisy, annoying and windmills are destroying their landsscape.
