How long do you need to school?

How long do you need to school?

Introduction

We should and want to save energy. This also includes the use of the public transport network. We were therefore interested in how long it takes to get to our school (and other schools in the region) by various means of transport such as car, train/bus, bicycle or on foot. Babenhausen consists of numerous districts in addition to the core city. Other students come from Schaafheim, Stockstadt, Mainhausen or Seligenstadt. So we have a large percentage of students who need a long way.

Method of research

To determine the necessary times we worked with google maps. Since the time needed for public transport depends on timetables, we always assumed that we want to be at school at the beginning of the first lesson. This seemed to be the most realistic and practical approach. We chose Babenhausen and Sickenhofen als starting points of the journey.

Conclusion:

With the car you are often faster than with other means of transport. This is a lot stronger the further the distance to your destination becomes. In addition, the car of more comfortable. Here carpooling can be a solution, which is also used by some of our students. For short distances, the bicycle is also an alternative with only slightly longer travel times. However, here the dependence on the weather is great. When it rains or snows or the summer temperatures are high, no one really wants to ride a bike. The goal now is to investigate the actual use of transportation. For this purpose we have developed a survey and hope to present the results soon.
